News 2015, January - December

Happy New Year and all the best for 2016!!

30. December
PDC World Championship - Twelfth Day
On day 12 of the PDC World Championship the last three third round matches were played.
The evening started with a really close, thrilling and high class match between Peter Wright and Dave Chisnall which was won in the tiebreak by Peter Wright. The following match between Mark Webster and Alan Norris felt almost boring especially as Norris dominated it from the beginning and won it 4:1. The last match of the evening was as thrilling, close and high class as the first and ended with the elimination of another favourite: Phil Taylor lost in another tiebreak to Jelle Klaasen.

Alan Norris won in the afternoon session as clear against Joe Murnan as a little bit surprising Mark Webster against Terry Jenkins. A lot more problems had Mensur Suljovic against young David Pallett but somehow Pallet was never in the match in the last set. The first two matches of the evening were very one sided and ended with 4:0 wins for Adrian Lewis and Peter Wright. The last match of the evening was contingent on Taylor's double trouble and Painter's respect for Taylor. In the end Taylor won 4:1 but it was an arduous win.

An upset was the 3:2 win of David Pallett against KIm Huybrechts who never gained control. Rene Eidams who played much better in than in the preliminary round match, brought World Number 1 Michael van Gerwen to the brink of a defeat.Van Gerwen had completly underrated his opponent.

World Championships Competitions
Many thanks to all who took part in the World Championships Competitions! It seems it was especially difficult this year - there were only a few who predicted Anderson as new PDC World Champion and those all predicted the wrong opponent. The even fewer who predicted a Taylor/Anderson final all thought Taylor would win. It was even harder with the BDO - only a single participant believed Scott Mitchell would reach the final! And all thought the ladies final would be Lisa Ashton v Anastasia Dobromyslova with Anastasia as the winner...
But of course there were winners nevertheless!!! And so I congratulate American Gregg Tong and Irishman Rab Smith as the two winners. Beside I handed out only second prizes as all were very close - to Austrian Christian Höbert, German Simon Schaub and Michael Beintema from the Netherlands, who even got two second prizes as he was quite close to the real result both in the PDC and the BDO competition!!

12. January
Mitchell new BDO World Championship
Scott Mitchell is the new BDO World Champion. The 44 years old farmer and gardener from Dorset defeated in the final the three times Lakeside Champion Martin Adams with 7:6. The match was not as high class as the matches before - Mitchell looked rather nervous, Adams more exhausted. Both in the averages as in all other statistics the two players were almost dead even. Mitchell!s average was 92.61, Adam's 92.55, Mitchell had 136 throws with over 100 points and eight 180s , Adams had 131 throws and 15 180's. Even in the last leg of the match the player's scores were almost identical though Mitchell had the advantage of the throw. Mitchell threw 180, 100, 81, 100 Punkte and then finished off his 40 points. Adams threw 100, 100, 180 and 84 points and had 37 points left. As the players were nip and tuck throughout the match it was a thrilling final.

10. January
Ashton again BDO WorlChampion
Today on Day Eight of the BDO World Championship the two semi-finals of the men and the ladies final were played.
In the ladies final Fallon Sherrock scorte higher then Lisa Ashton but Ashton was clinical on her doubles and won her second title in a row.

The first men's semifinal between Scott Mitchell and Canadier Jeff Smith was a rather one sided affair and Mitchell progressed with a 6:0 win into his first Lakeside final.
The second highclass semifinal however was a match which both the involved players Martin Adams and Glen Durrant and all spectators will long bear in mind. None of the players managed to really get the better of his opponent. Durrant finally had an 5:4 advantage and in the following set three times darts to win the match but he didn't get a handle on his nerves and Adams could draw 5:5. In the deciding set Durrant first could keep up but in the end the much more experienced Adams got the two legs advantage necessary for the win.

The men all showed good performances in the last matches of the second round where Canadian Jeff Smith had the biggest surprise in store when he eliminated Gary Robson from the tournament. Jamie Hughes fell short of expectations and was defeated 4:1 by Glen Durrant who scored much better and was clinical with his doubles.
