PDC World Championship - Preview Part 2

Who will win?
No one will deny that Michael van Gerwen after all his achievements this year is the top favourite to win the title. Furthermore he is favoured by the draw. First Round - winner of Snook v Viljanen, Second Round - winner of Cristo Reyes v Dimitri van Den Bergh, Third Round probably Bunting or Whitlock. Quarterfinals might be Mensur Suljovic. In the semi-finals it might get interesting as Taylor or van Barneveld could be his opponent. Those two probably will meet in the quarterfinal should not Lewis mix in and eliminate van Barneveld. For Taylor it is easier to reach the quarterfinals - only Kim Huybrechts could be a problem. I can't see another player in the draw that might be a danger for Taylor. But during the Grand Slam Taylor was far from his best and since then we didn't see him play. Nevertheless I predict he will at least reach the quarterfinals.

The other half of the draw is more interesting as predictions are very difficult. There we find reigning champion Gary Anderson, we find James Wade, Dave Chisnall, Jelle Klaasen and Peter Wright and beside some players who might cause an upset like Benito van de Pas, Michael Smith, Steve West or Gerwyn Price. There are a lot of high class players in this half. Should Gary Anderson be in good form the others will not be able to keep up with him. He will reach at least the semi-finals and we could see an Anderson v van Gerwen final. But should his form not be there it could happen there'll be a Wright v van Gerwen final and you will not have to watch this.

But you can't exclude Taylor will be the one to survive the top half of the draw - he to be sure is determined. Whether that will be enough against van Gerwen is difficult to foresee, but he's already beaten the Dutchman several times. To be sure a Taylor v Anderson or a Taylor v Wright final would be interesting!!!
