John McDonald




John McDonald was born on 7. August 1960 in London. First he was a paratrooper in the British army but after an accident he had to switch and started to work as a free lance photographer for TV.
Between 1982 and 1994 he travelled around the world to report from important sports events before in 1994 he again changed his profession and started to work as and MC for sports events.

His breakthrough came with Boxing and from that time on he worked a free-lance sports MC and once again travelled around the world - this time with a microphone. In preference he works at Boxing, Snooker, Fishing, Poker, Tennis, Table-Tennis and Darts.
Since 1990 he's the official British Press pressman of the international boxing organisation and he is the leading European sports announcer.
For Sky Sports an ITV he works all over Great Britain and for Matchroom Sports and the PDC he works on sports channels around the world.

Through Matchroom and Boxing he got into contact with Barry Hearn, who asked him in 2007 to follow Phil Jones as Master of Ceremonies of the PDC.
McDonald had already worked before this date in darts, for the first time in 2004 during a match between Phil Taylor and Andy Fordham. Since 2007 he works solely for the PDC.

For McDonald Boxing and Darts are very similar sports - in both two opponents meet one another solitary in the limelight.

John McDonald is married and has four sons. His hobbies are hiking and climbing, his favourite region for this is the English Lake District.
John Mac Donald nickname is "Mad Dog"!
