Rob Szabo started to play darts in 1988. After around for year he took a break to build up a family. From 2002 to 2013 he played the BDO/WDF Circuit and among other successes won the New Zealand National Championship 2010 and represented his country as member of the national team in the Asia Pacific Cup.

In 2013 he qualified for the PDC World Championship 2014 and won his preliminary round match against Ian Moss. He lost his first round match 1:3 against Phil Taylor after he had won the first set. 2016 he again took part in the PDC world Championship and this time lost first round to Jamie Caven. Both 2014 and 2016 he was part of Team New Zealand in the PDC World Cup.

Szabo works as a builder but hopes he'll be able to earn his living as a dart pro.
