New Tropicana Day 1 - Cricket World Championship
THE World Cricket Championship sees an alternative form of darts played to kick off the New Tropicana World Series of
Darts Festival. The Cricket format of darts, as opposed to the 501 format used in all other PDC tournaments, sees players focusing on the
numbers 15-20 and the bullseye solely, and scoring points on those numbers.
Cricket is most popular in north America, potentially making the American and Canadian players the favourites for
Saturday's event at the new-look Tropicana Hotel.
However, the event will be the first time some of the newer stars of the sport have played Cricket competitively.
For those wondering about the rules of Cricket, here's our guide to the game...
All matches will be the best of five legs. Should a game reach two-all, the players will throw for the bullseye again before
the deciding leg to determine who throws first.
Cricket is played using the numbers 20, 19, 18, 17, 16, 15 and both the Inner and Outer Bull.
To close a number, the player must score three of that number. The double and treble ring count as two or three of that number
respectively. Closure can be accomplished with three singles, a single and a double, or a treble.
Once a player closes a number, they may score points on that number until the opponent also closes that number.
The double and treble count as two or three times the numerical values respectively. All numerical scores are added to the previous balance. Once both players have scored three of a number, it is 'closed', and no further scoring can be made on that number by either player.
To close the bull, the Outer Bull counts as a single, and the Inner Bull counts as a double.
Numbers can be closed in any order desired by the individual player.
Winning the game:
- A The player that closes all the numbers first and has the highest numerical score, will be declared the winner.
- B If both players are tied in points, or have no points, the first player to close the specified numbers will be the winner.
- C If a player closes the numbers first, and is behind in points, they must continue to score on any number not closed until either the point deficit is made up, or the opponent has closed all the numbers.

Phil Taylor wins Cricket World Championship
Phil Taylor showed his dominance even in Cricket and lost during the whole tournament only four legs. In the final against Mark Walsh he first was behind with 0:2 zurück, but managed to turn the match and win 3:2.Of the favourised American players only the strong nerved Darin Young could keep up, who was defeated in the semifinals by Mark Walsh.
