European Championship - Match Reports 1st Day

Mervyn King 6:1 Co Stompe
Mervyn King dominated the first match of the European Championships without any problem.
Co Stompe had a lot of double trouble throughout the match and only managed to win a single leg with double 2. King threw during the match three 13-Darters and hit the double in six of seven tries. His average was 96.3 while Stompe had an average of 88.01.
King who for some time now suffers from a tennis elbow has changed to some other anti-inflammatory medication which seems to work and he could plan without pain. He'll now meet Phil Taylor in the second round.

Colin Lloyd 6:4 Alan Tabern
In a comparatively even matched game Colin Lloyd was the player who came through.
Lloyd who threw the only 180 of the match took some time to find his accuracy on the doubles and Tabern took an early lead. But Lloyd recovered and with a 64er Finish got the win.

Peter Wright 6:5 John Part
In a close match Peter Wright cheered by the crowd was the lucky winner.
The match war rather evenly matched and the averages are almost identical. Both players hit one 180. John Part had the better check-out rate but this advantage was destroyed by a 13-Darter from Peter Wright in the deciding leg.

Paul Nicholson 6:3 Justin Pipe
Like many other matches of the night this match was a match of missed doubles. But Paul Nicholson scored much higher the Justin Pipe and so in this hard fight over battle had more chances then Pipe to hit the doubles. Pipe had all in all 9 scores 100+ while Nicholson had twice as many.

Simon Whitlock 6:2 Mensur Suljovic
Mensur Suljovic - the only German speaking participant of the tournament - had no chance at all against a strong playing Simon Whitlock.
Whitlock had recovered from his quarter final defeat by Andy Hamilton during the World Matchplay where he had lost nine legs in a row. He threw his usually high scores and hit the only 180 of the match while Suljovic played under par and only had rare chances to even throw at a double.

Phil Taylor 6:3 John Michael
Phil Taylor defeated the very first Greek who ever took part in a PDC Major tournament.
John Michael showed a really good performance during his first ever match on stage in a televised tournament and won the first leg of the match against the throw. As Taylor he hit two 180s and he had a checkout rate of 60 percent which was topped by Taylor's 86 percent. His average of 87.94 though was far lower the Taylor's 107.83 - the highest average of the evening.
Phil Taylor who'll now meet Mervyn King in second round was quite impressed by the Greek.

Terry Jenkins 6:4 Mark Webster
For the first time since quite a long time Terry Jenkins showed a convincing performance.
Webster had a strong start into the match and got an early 3:1 lead. But Jenkins showed strong nerves started a comeback and in the end won the match with a 13-Darter.
He'll meet Paul Nicholson in second round.

Gary Anderson 6:3 Jamie Caven
While Jamie Caven was defeated again Gary Anderson could rehabilitated himself. He had lost his first round match during the World Matchplay against Andy Hamilton.
Anderson had an average of over 97 and hit three 180s. He had a checkout rate of around 55 percent and was quite accurate on his doubles.
Anderson will play in the second round against the colourful Peter Wright.
