Rick Hofstra plays in the BDO since 2001 and reached the quarterfinals of the Belgium Open the same year. In 2004 he for the first time qualified for the BDO World Championship but lost in a controversial match to Mervyn King. Later this year he stood in the quarterfinals of the Winmau World Masters. He returned to Lakeside in 2005 but already lost first round. Over the next few years one didn't hear much from him though he for some time played PDC events in Holland.
2014 Hofstra was back in the BDO World Championship as a qualifier and played himself into the quarterfinals, after his second round opponent Martin Atkins had to withdrew during the match due to an elbow injury. In the quarterfinals he then lost to the later winner Stephen Bunting.
