Michael Smith plays since 2008 the PDC Circuit and won five Youth Tour Events in 2012 before he went on to win the PDC Unicorn World Championship in 2013.
2010 he qualified for the first time for the UK Open and reached the last 32. 2011 he won an UK Open Qualifier and qualified for the PDC World Championship 2012 but lost first round. 2012 he won his first Players Chamüpionship and took part in the World Matchplay and the World Grand Prix but both times lost firs round. End of 2012 he had moved up to place 25 of the PDC Order of Merit and so qualified for the PDC World Championship 2013 where he again lost first round. But as winner of the Youth World Championship he was qualified for the Grand Slam of Darts. Smith didn't survive the Group Phase. He was qualified for the PDC World Championship 2014 by the Pro Tour Order of Merit and was repsonsible for the biggest upset of the event when he elimnated Phil Taylor in the second round. In January 2014 he was awarded "Young Player of the Year". Later in the same year he won some more Pro Tour events und reached the quartrefinals of the Grand Slam His season 2015 was quite similar- he won his first European Tour Events and stood in the semi-finals of the Grand Slam of Darts. He moved up on the 16. place in the PDC Order of Merit and reached the quarterfinals of the PDC World Championship 2016. Smith was invited to play the Premier League but ended last of the table and was eliminated in Judgement Night. All in all 2016 was not a good year for Michael Smith. He played himself into the third round of the PDC World Championship 2017 and finally could celebrate another win on the European Tour - his first tounrmant win in two years. He had some more good results on the European Tour 2017 and took part in the World Series of Darts. though he lost in the second round of the PDC World Championship 2019 he for a second time was invited to take part in the Premier League and ended as the runner-up. Beside he already had two wins on the Pro Tour and reached an European Tour Final. 2019 was the so far most successful year for Smith - he still couldn't a Major but he stood in the final of the World Championship and the World Matchplay and the semi-finals of the UK Open the European Championship and the World Series of Darts Final. He was eliminated second round of the PDC World Championship by Luke Woodhouse but reached the final of the Masters before he threw on the Premier League night in Dublin a nine-darter.
