Because it was so very cold outside Jim Widmayer in 1988 went into a pub where at that moment darts was played.... Since 1992 Widmayer started to make himself a name in darts. 1994 he took part in the World Matchplay.
1996 he for the first time was nominated for the Anerican national team and won the national Championship.
For some time he played at that level then he withdrew from national and international darts and only played league for several years.
In 2006 he reappeared to play a qualifications for the PDC World Series of Darts which he won. He still plays some of the American PDC tournaments but never could take up the form of the 1990s.
In 2011 Widmayer qualified for the Winmau World Masters and reached despite an injury at his throwing arm the last 24. In 2013 Widmayer was the first American player who managed to qualify by the national qualifiyings for the BDO World Championship 2014 after the BDO had expanded the number of participants in the tournament to 40.
