We take a further look at the 180's hit in The Premier League.
Last week we told you that in the first eight weeks the final game of the night had never been the game that produced the most 180's! Then, The
Wizard popped up to hit eight in the last game of the night, statistics, don't you just love them?
We also mentioned that hitting the most 180's was not necessarily the most significant factor of a player winning a darts match, there are other
areas of scoring that were more significant. To test this theory in the Premier League we have compared the 180 hitting table with the actual
Premier League table.
Player | Pos PL Table | Points | Pos 180's Table | 180's | Difference |
Phil Taylor | 1 | 16 | 3 | 34 | -2 |
Gary Anderson | 2 | 12 | 1 | 42 | +1 |
Simon Whitlock | 3 | 10 | 2 | 38 | +1 |
Raymond van Barneveld | 3 | 10 | 6 | 24 | -3 |
Adrian Lewis | 5 | 9 | 4 | 32 | +1 |
James Wade | 6 | 6 | 6 | 24 | - |
Terry Jenkins | 7 | 5 | 5 | 27 | +2 |
Mark Webster | 8 | 4 | 8 | 23 | - |
The Power duly obliges in demonstrating that the argument that 180's are for show is true! He is third in the 180 table but of course tops the
actual points table by four clear points.
However, Webster's and James Wade's 180`s position are actually an accurate barometer of their status in the league table. Barney has the
largest differential in positions, he is joint third in the league table yet sits sixth in the 180's table with a total of twenty four 180's,
just one more than Webbo, who is at the bottom of both leagues!
The Most Prolific
Who is the most prolific hitter of 180's? Anderson has hit the most but is he the most prolific? To find out we have calculated the amount of
legs the top three have played to find out how many legs each player needs to hit a 180.
Player | Number of 180's | Legs played | Average Legs per 180 |
Gary Anderson | 41 | 108 | 2,63 |
Simon Whitlock | 38 | 103 | 2,71 |
Phil Taylor | 34 | 100 | 2,94 |
Gary Anderson has had to play the most legs for his table topping forty one 180's but even so he is still also the most prolific 180 hitter, but
it is very close. His ratio is one 180 every 2.63 legs. The Wizard conjures one up every 2.71 and The Power every 2.94 leg. Just to give you a
comparison, if Anderson had played the same amount of legs as Taylor (100) with his ratio of playing 2.63 legs per 180 hit, he would have hit
thirty eight 180's compared to Taylor's thirty four.
