BDO World Championship - Report, Statistics 6. Day

Women
On the sixth day of the BDO World Championships the four quarterfinals of the women were played.
In the first match Ann-Louise Peters and Zoe Jones met - Peters managed to win the match due to her clinical finishing. The first set was a hard fought affair which ended in a deciding leg. Peters had the throw and used the advantage for an 82 finish to win the set. Peters had the better start into the second set but Jones won the first leg. The following two sets Peters secured herself, but she showed nerves in leg four and didn't score as well as before so Jones forced with a double 2 another deciding leg which she won. The third set was a quite scrappy one till Peters won the second leg with a 160 finish. Jones got leg three and had the chance to draw in leg four but missed. Peters hit the double 7 to win set and match.

In the second women's quarterfinal Trina Gulliver eliminated reigning champion Lisa Ashton, but it was all in all not a good match which was most notably decided by Ashton's double trouble which affected Gulliver in parts as well. In the end Gulliver progressed with a double 17 into her 14. Lakeside semi-final.

The match between Aileen de Graaf and Anca Zijlstra was from beginning dominated by de Graaf but she had some weaker phases as well and missed 10 matchdarts. De Graaf won the first set without losing a leg and it looked she would have no problems in the second set either but Zijlstra took her chance to draw when de Graaf missed two Matchdarts. Stunned by this de Graaf had first to recover in set three but she won the first two sets. She missed another six Matchdarts in leg 3. In the fourth leg she managed to cross the finishing line with a double 20 and for the first time reached the semi-finals in Lakeside.

The last women's quarterfinal between Lorraine Winstanley and Deta Hedman was the best of the ladies matches on the day and a convincing Deta Hedman won it 2:0. Deta only lost a single leg but the match was much closer as Winstanley wired several attempted high finishes.

Men
On the sixth day the last three second round matches were played.
The first match between Mark McGeenes was very close and hard fought and it was only decided in a Sudden Death leg which the reigning champion won. McGeeney showed a good performance but was not rewarded. McGeeney won the first set without losing a leg and showed a 130 bullseyefinish in the third leg. The second leg Mitchell somehow managed to win as he had the throw in the deciding fifth leg. The third set McGeeney won again with a 107 average. After the interval Mitchell managed the 2:2 and then for the first time got into the lead while McGeeney had problems with his scoring and finishing. Mitchell was more in control in the sixth set but missed with his Matchdarts and McGeeney won the set. The final seventh set was the closest of the match and none of the players managed to get away - not even in the tiebreak. McGeeney had the throw in the Sudden Death leg but the reigning champion outscored him and won the match in a 14-Darter.

The following men's match between debutant Richard Veenstra and Martin Atkins rather surprisingly was a rather one-sided affair - Veenstra demolished Atkins 4:0. Veenstra won the first set without reply and Atkins only managed to win a single leg in set two. His second leg Atkins won after the short interval but he couldn't stop Veenstra who won the other legs of the third set and was 3:0 in the lead. The fourth set was much closer and ended in a deciding fifth leg. But Atkins bottle didn't help him - leg and set were won again by the Dutch debutant.

The last match of the evening between Scott Waites and Geert de Vos was a two times one-sided match. Geert de Vos dominated it till his 3:0 lead and Scott Waites till that moment didn't have a lot of chances. After the 3:0 suddenly the match turned and now it was Waites who dominated and de Vos had not many chances and those he had he couldn't take. So in the end Waites won 4:3.
