Phill Nixon played for many years consistently but unobtrusively on the BDO circuit. 2002 he reached the quarterfinals of the Winmau World Masters, 2004 the semi-finals of the British Open.
In 2007 he qualified for the first time for the BDO World Championship in Lakeside and after wins over Darryl Fitton, Martin Atkins, Paul Hanvidge and Niels de Ruiter he sensationally stood in the final against Martin Adams. It looked like an easy win for Adams but when Nixon was 0:6 down he started an amazing comeback. Nixon managed to draw 6:6 but in the decider his nerves let him down. He missed two matchdarts and Adams won the match with 7:6. Nixon qualified for Lakeside again in 2008 but lost his first round match to Adams. Nevertheless 2008 was his most successful year on the circuit. Till than he didn't manage to qualify again for the BDO World Championship but played a strong Winmau World Masters in 2012 reaching the quarter-finals.

In June 2003 Nixon was diagnosed with cancer. He died on 9. August 2013.
