Michael Unterbuchner started his career 2004 as a soft-darts player before he changed 2012 to steel-darts. He plays mainly DDV and WDF/BDO tournaments. 2016 he reached the quarterfinals of the Italian Grand Masters - his first international good placing. In 2017 he won two DDV ranking events on Sylt and in Wöhr and for the first time took part in the Winmau World Masters where he reached the last 48.
He took as well part in the Lakeside Play-Offs and managed to qualify for the preliminary round of the BDO World Championship 2018. After the tournaments in Bridlington he traveled as part of Team Germany to the WDF World Cup and played himself in the quarterfinals of the men's singles. For his achievements he was awarded with a Wild card for the Finder Darts Masters. That he is in form for the Finder Darts Masters and the World Championship he proved by reaching the final of the Italian Grand Masters where he lost to Wesley Harms. He reached the semi-finals of the BDO World Championship at his debut. In 2019 Unterbuchner was for a short time the WDF Number 1. He again qualified for the BDO World Championship 2019 - this time as a seeded player. Unterbuchner again stood in the semi-finals and this time he lost to Scott Waites.
