Smith wins PDC World Championship
In a terrific final Michael Smith defeated Michael van Gerwen with 7:4 and won his first World Champion title. By this he moved up to the first place in the PDC Order of Merit as well.
The players shared the first six sets of the match. In the incredible third leg of the second set both players had the chance for a nine-darter. While van Gerwen missed the double 12 for his perfect leg, Smith hit it. It was only the second nine-darter so far in a World Championship Final. At 3:3 in sets Smith started to pull clear - he won three sets in a row and led 6:3. Then he slightly dropped off and van Gerwen won his fourth leg. In the last set the Dutchman first was on the inside track but he missed the busllseye for his 132 finish to win the set. Smith managed to turn the set around and won match and title with an 11-darter.

PDC World Championship - Five Minutes Analysis Day 15
Tonight in the evening session both semi-finals will be played. First Gabriel Clemens will play against Michael Smith. After that Dimitri van den Bergh will meet Michael van Gerwen.
Semifinals Specials: In the semi-finals stand four players from four different countries - for the fourth time in the history of the event. But it is only for the second time that all four are the number 1 of their country. That only happened once before in 2010, in that year with Phil Taylor the English number 1, with Raymond van Barneveld the Dutch number 1,with Mark Webster the Welsh number 1 and with Simon Whitlock the Australian number 1 stood at the oche. Winner 2010 was the English number 1 Phil Taylor.
What you should know as well: Not only Gabriel Clemens wrote history by progressing into the semi-finals, it is as well the first time ever a Belgian player reached the semi-finals of the event - Dimitri van den Bergh. Van den Bergh's so far best placings had been the quarterfinals 2018 where he lost to the eventual winner Rob Cross and the quarterfinals 2020 where he lost to Nathan Aspinall.
But Clemens is not the first German who reached the semi-finals of a World Championship. That was Michael Unterbuchner, who stood both 2018 and 2019 in the semi-finals of the BDO World Championship.
Schedule Day 15

1. January
PDC World Championship - Day 14
Today all four quarterfinals took place and there were two upsets - the bigger one was caused by German Gabriel Clemens.
The German number 1 wrote even more history tonight - Clemens defeated the number 1 of the world Gerwyn Price with 5:1 and progressed as first ever German into the semi-finals of the PDC World Championship. Clemens was the better player almost throughout, he had the higher average, threw more maxima and was more clinical on the doubles. The second upset was caused by Belgian Dimitri van den Bergh who defeated Jonny Clayton with 5:3. The match between Michael Smith and Stephen Bunting was hard fought - Bunting scored better but Smith had the better hitting rate on the doubles which decided the match. No problems at all had Michael van Gerwen in the last quarterfinal as Chris Dobey showed a far less strong performance as against Rob Cross. Van Gerwen won 5:0.

PDC World Championship - Five Minutes Analysis Day 14
Today in the afternoon- and the evening-session two quarterfinals each will be played.
Match of the day: Personal Favourite: Gerwyn Price v Gabriel Clemens. Impartial: Michael Smith v Stephen Bunting
Today's Day's Specials: Today for once the English players have the majority - with Michael Smith, Chris Dobey and Stephen Bunting three will stand at the oche. But the two former World Champions still in the tournament come from the Netherlands and Wales...
What you should know as well: Michael van Gerwen switched 2007 to the PDC. His first appearance in the PDC World Championship was in the World Championship 2008 where he lost first round to Phil Taylor. Anyway were van Gerwen's first years in the PDC far from successful. That changed after he won 2012 the Grand Slam in Dublin. Then followed the years in which he displaced Phil Taylor as the dominant player of the PDC though so far he won the World Championship only three times and never managed to defend his title.
