Unexpected and in the last few legs not sportingly fair Gerwyn Price defeated in the final Gary Anderson with 16:13 and won his first Major Title. The crowd mercylessly bood him. Both semifinals were captivating matches and in both matches it looked one of the players slacked off in strenght.
In the first semifinal Mensur Suljovic already looked liek the winner when he was 10:5 in the lead. But Gerwyn Price didn't give in and fought back to draw. Then ist seemed Suljovic had run out of steam - his scores were below 100 most of the time and he couldn't find the doubles and longer while Price just played on and won 16:12.
The semifinald between Gary Anderson and Michael van Gerwen was at the start much closer and van Gerwen was most of the time in the lead while Anderson always managed to draw. But then it was Anderson who went with 11:9 in the break. After the break van Gerwen managed the 11:11, but Anderson was back in front immediately and won five of the following six legs. Grand Slam of Darts - Day 5
In the knockout phase of groups E-H we did see interesting matches. The evening started with Dimitri van den Bergh against Stephen Bunting, a match in which Bunting
couldn't keep up the performances of his group matches and in which van den Bergh through sensationally his first TV nine-darter. In the second match Josh Payne only could play a head-to-head game till
the 5:5 - then Gerwyn Price was just too much for him. Both World Champion Rob Cross and Peter Wright had some problems and lost their matches to Mensur Suljovic and respectivly Simon Whitlock.

Tommy Cox passed away
Tommy Cox, co-founder of the PDC and for long years the tournament director, today passed away following illness.
Cox,who first played as player manager, together with 14 players, Dick Allix and John Markovic 1993 left the BDO to found the PDC.
More then 20 he was the tournamnt director of the PDC till he retired in 2015. He not only was important in founding the PDC but as well
changed the sport of darts in how it looks today.
I got to know Tommy during all my tournament visits and came to value him. He to be sure leaves a big void.
Grand Slam of Darts - Day 4
In the last group matches of groups A - D we could watch a few surprises. Both Michael Unterbuchner and
Wesley Harms won there matches. So two BDO players progressed into the knock-out phase and Unterbuchner
is the first German player who managed it. Raymond van Barneveld lost 0:5 against Michael Smith
and was eliminated from the tournament - probably for the first time the Dutchman didn't survive the group phase. Michael van Gerwen won his
match against Joe Murnan and so progressed but this year not on the first place of the group but only on the second.

Grand Slam of Darts - Day 1, Evening
The biggest upset of the evening session in which groups A-D played their first group matches was the defeat of a slightly listless playing
Raymond van Barneveld against Krzysztof Ratajski. Not to be expected as well was Keegan Brown's win over
Webster. Quite odd was the match between Michael Smith and Adam Smith-Neale, in which an at the start outstandig playing
suddenly was no longer able to hit a double. So Smith-Neale managed to win two more legs before the match anded 3:5 for Smith.
All the favourites had easy wins.
